Teris Deitsch is a well-recognized and valued member of the family law community and has been practicing primarily in the area of family law since 2006. Teris handles all family law matters including divorce, timesharing (formally “custody”), child support, alimony, distribution of assets (including family businesses, investment plans, retirement plans and real property), modification and enforcement of prior court orders, paternity, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and domestic violence injunctions.
Additionally, Teris highly values the Collaborative Law model for family law cases. Through her experiences in Collaborative Law, Teris recognizes the meaningful benefits this client-driven model provides to individuals, families, and children during what can be the most overwhelming time of their lives. Conversely, Teris also has seen the damaging effects that a “fight at all costs” mindset can inflict upon everyone involved in traditional litigation cases.
Although Teris is an experienced trial attorney, she is dedicated to exploring all reasonable and creative settlement options so that the best interests of the family, and in particular the children, are served. Teris believes that an advocacy approach based on problem solving benefits her clients both emotionally and financially. Teris is devoted to helping her clients set realistic, practical, and carefully chosen goals early in their case. She understands what her clients are experiencing so she works hard to support her clients both legally and emotionally throughout the entire process.
In fact, both partners at Artemis Family Law Group share this solution-oriented approach to family law. Teris first met Paul Shafranski in 2006 when he became her legal assistant. Recognizing that she and Paul shared the same core principles not only in the practice of law, but also in life, they remained close over the years. When an opportune moment presented itself, Teris and Paul decided they wanted to create a family law firm with a perspective focused on problem solving for their clients, rather than one that simply created more problems. Thus, in 2018, Teris and Paul established Artemis Family Law Group.
Teris also finds great satisfaction with her work as a Guardian ad Litem advocating for the best interests of children in family law matters. Her affinity for children and friendly personality allow her to create safe and comfortable connections with children. Making these connections is an invaluable skill for a Guardian ad Litem tasked with investigating and making recommendations regarding children whose parents are involved in a contentious family law matter.
Teris received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Teris earned her law degree from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law and graduated in the top 20 percent of her class. While attending law school, Teris also received Book Awards (given to the top performing law student for a subject) in Criminal Procedure and Legal Drafting.
Since 2012, Teris has been a member of the Central Florida Family Law Inn of Court, an invitation-only organization of attorneys and members of the judiciary promoting professionalism and excellence in family law. Currently, Teris serves on the Executive Board of the Central Florida Family Law Inn of Court. Teris is also a member of the Orange County Bar Association and has served on the Family Law Committee Executive Board since 2012, holding various positions including Chair; the Collaborative Family Law Group of Central Florida; and various voluntary bar associations, including serving on the board of the Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association.
